Simple ways to stay hydrated
In our hectic daily lives, we can sometimes forget some of our body’s most basic needs. Staying hydrated is absolutely crucial to our health and well-being.
Our bodies are made up largely of water, and we need to keep our reserves topped up to keep many of its functions working. We need water to regulate our body temperature, keep our digestion moving, transport nutrients and keep our skin healthy and glowing. In a nutshell, staying hydrated is essential to making sure our body does what it’s supposed to do.
We’ve put together some hydration tips to make it even easier:
At the start of the day or week, set a goal as to how much water you want to drink, and stick to it. A good general rule of thumb is 1.5 to 2 litres per day.
If you always have it there, it’ll remind you to drink regularly. Reusable bottles are not only environmentally friendly, but also practical.
If you find it difficult to drink enough water, you could add a bit of flavour by adding slices of lemon or cucumber, mint leaves or berries. This will make your drinks more interesting, and refreshing!
Make it a habit to drink at certain times of the day, like when you get up, before eating or when you take a break from work. That way, you won’t forget.
If you are playing sports or otherwise being active, your hydration needs increase. Make sure you drink enough before, during and after exercise to replace the fluids you lose. The same applies to activities on warm summer days.
Other drinks like tea, fruit juices and soups can also be included in your fluid intake, although water is always the best choice for getting fluids into your body.
