How cookies work
To improve your surfing experience, as well as for statistical, market research and advertising purposes, content from external providers is integrated into the Sympany website. These external providers, as well as Sympany itself, use cookies to manage their services. Cookies are therefore installed on the hard drive of your computer when you visit our website. Cookies are small information units that the browser stores locally on the user’s computer. Sympany needs them to allow you to use the Sympany website and to optimise your use. Cookies also allow Sympany and, if applicable, external providers to identify your browser or the user when you next visit. Most of the cookies we use are so-called session cookies. They are automatically deleted when you close the web page. Other cookies remain stored on your device until they are automatically deleted from the browser on the basis of the expiry date set in the cookie, or until you delete them yourself.
Although the data collected by the cookies is collected and processed anonymously, you can also use the Sympany website without cookies by deactivating cookies in your browser. Sympany uses a consent manager for cookie management, which informs every visitor to the Sympany websites about the use and purpose of cookies before they visit the websites. In addition, the consent manager allows the visitor to opt out of individual cookies or groups of cookies.
Exception: Essential cookies that are necessary for the secure operation of Sympany’s websites. These are always switched on. You can also place an opt-out cookie for every external provider. However, deactivating Sympany cookies may make certain features unavailable and also lead to restrictions in terms of your use of our websites.
You can find details about the way third parties use your personal data in their respective privacy policies, e.g. that of Facebook and Google. Please note that Sympany’s data protection provisions do not apply to the processing of data by these third parties. As the provider of the websites, Sympany does not have exhaustive knowledge of the content of the transferred data and the specific way it is used by third parties. By using the corresponding products, such as Facebook, Google, etc., you declare that you agree with the relevant privacy policies.
Within the scope of the GDPR, necessary cookies are stored on the basis of Article 6, paragraph 1, point f GDPR to enable electronic communication processes or to provide certain features you wish to use (e.g. in the premium calculator or in the “mySympany” customer portal). Sympany has a legitimate interest in storing such cookies in order to ensure the technically error-free and optimised provision of its services. Other cookies that may be stored (e.g. to analyse your surfing habits) are only used after you have given your consent. These cookies are dealt with separately below.
The Facebook pixel is integrated into our websites. When you visit these websites, a direct link is established between your browser and the Facebook server via the Facebook pixel. Through this link, Facebook learns that you have visited the website via your IP address. This enables Facebook to associate your visit to the website with your user account (if you have one).
The information received in this way can be used for displaying Facebook ads or for tracking and analytics features (via the Facebook pixel). Please note: as the provider of the website, Sympany does not have any precise knowledge of the content of the transferred data and the specific way it is used by Facebook. You can find more information on this in Facebook’s privacy policy. If you do not want Custom Audiences to collect any information, you can deactivate Custom Audiences in your Facebook account.

Google Analytics
Sympany uses the services of Google Analytics to automatically collect data about your use of the website when you visit it. Sympany uses this data to find out how the website is being used and to gain insights into the surfing habits of website users. The information generated by cookies concerning your use of the Sympany website is transferred to a Google server and stored there.

Google Ads remarketing
Google Ads remarketing analyses your surfing habits and uses them as a basis for displaying personalised Sympany advertisements when you surf the Internet or use a mobile app or the Google search engine. In this way, interest-based, personalised advertisements tailored to you based on your earlier usage and surfing habits on one device (e.g. smartphone) can also be shown on another device (e.g. tablet or PC). With Google Ads, the advertisements placed on Google are analysed and paid for by Sympany.
If you have granted the corresponding consent, Google will link your online and app browser history with your Google account. This means that you will be shown the same personalised advertisements on any device you are signed into with your Google account.
Google DoubleClick for Advertisers and DoubleClick Floodlight
This website and our newsletter use the web analytics services provided by Google DoubleClick for Advertisers and DoubleClick Floodlight. DoubleClick optimises interaction with Google Ads. It places cookies when you view an advertisement or click on a Sympany advertising banner on partner websites. As a result, Google knows that you have visited such websites via your IP address. This allows Google to link your visit to a website to your user account. This is done in order to be able to show you more interesting advertising banners. The cookie allows Sympany to register specific information about the interaction of your browser with a specific display item. Information is also recorded about whether you have viewed or clicked on an advertisement and whether this led to a conversion, such as the conclusion of a contract with Sympany. Please note: as the provider of the website, Sympany does not have any precise knowledge of the content of the transferred data and the specific way it is used by Google. You can find more information on this in Google’s privacy policy.
- If you do not have a Google account and do not want Google to collect usage data, you can deactivate personalised ads. This installs an opt-out cookie on your device.
- Please note: no usage data is collected as long as Google’s personalised ads are deactivated and a corresponding opt-out cookie has been installed.
- If you have a Google account, you can permanently object to cross-device remarketing/targeting by deactivating personalised advertising in your Google account.
To the extent that Sympany falls within the scope of the GDPR, collected data shall only be captured in your Google account on the basis of your consent. You can grant or revoke this consent from Google at any time (Article 6 [1] [a] GDPR). For data collecting processes that are not captured in your Google account (e.g. because you do not have a Google account or have objected to this capture), the collection of the data shall be based on Article 6 (1)(f) GDPR. Sympany’s legitimate interest is based on its interest in the anonymised analysis of website visitors for advertising purposes.

Google reCAPTCHA v3
We use CAPTCHA v3 contact forms on our websites. reCAPTCHA v3 checks whether a person or an automated program entered data in the contact form. Hardware and software information (e.g. device and application data) is recorded for this purpose and transferred to Google for analysis. The information recorded while using this service is used to improve reCAPTCHA and for general security purposes. The reCAPTCHA analyses run completely in the background and start as soon as you open a page with an online form. Google’s privacy conditions and terms of use apply in this regard.
