Pallifon
The Pallifon is an emergency hotline for palliative patients and their relatives – free of charge and available around the clock.
The Pallifon is an important point of contact for terminally ill patients living at home. In emergency situations, they can contact trained specialists for support on 0844 148 148 if the usual emergency contact cannot be reached.
Telephone support around the clock
The Pallifon team is there when symptoms and fears are distressing or when relatives and carers are no longer sure what to do. Pallifon employees can often help straight away on the phone. If necessary, they can also put callers in touch with specialised doctors from the regional Pallifon network and refer them to Spitex, pharmacies, emergency wards or the ambulance service. Consultation with Pallifon is free of charge.
For more autonomy and quality of life
The Pallifon is run by the non-profit association of the same name, which is financed by donations. The emergency consultations increase the autonomy and quality of life of palliative patients and help to ensure that they can be cared for at home for as long as possible.
As a result, the Pallifon also relieves the burden on family doctor practices and reduces emergency hospital admissions.
Expansion to other regions planned
The Pallifon can be reached around the clock, from anywhere in Switzerland. Pallifon has established a particularly dense medical network in the cantons of Aargau, Bern, Schwyz, Zug and Zurich. This means that it can also provide downstream emergency solutions via regional specialists and special emergency plans for patients.
The aim of the Pallifon association is to roll out these enhanced services in further regions and to introduce a national palliative emergency number. The Sympany Foundation is supporting it on a project basis in setting up the network in north-western Switzerland.
